GSA2024 Information for Attendees
The Genetics Society of AustralAsia (GSA) is the professional organization for scientific researchers and educators in the field of genetics in Australia, New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region. This year, the annual meeting of the GSA will be hosted at Macquarie University’s Wallumattagal campus from the 30th of June to the 3rd of July.

How to get there:
Macquarie University is easily accessible by public transportation. To plan your bus or train trip, visit the Transport for NSW trip planner website https://transportnsw.info/trip#/trip. You can also download the Transport NSW app on your mobile phone to find bus and train routes and schedules. Alternatively, you can use trip planning apps like Google maps or the Opal app. Public transport can be paid by card (Mastercard, Visa or American Express) or using the Opal card, which can be acquired from Opal retailers such as the airport or other retailers listed here https://transportnsw.info/trip#/opal-retailer. You will need to tap on when you get on transport or enter a station and tap off when you get off.
Train
Macquarie University has its own Metro station. Green star on map (U27) The Metro is an extension of Sydney’s train service. You can swap from a train to the Metro at Epping or Chatswood Station. The Metro runs regularly every 5-10 minutes. Once you reach Macquarie University Metro Station, the Conference venue is a 5-10 minute walk (see map below).
Bus
To get to Macquarie University, there are several bus stops along the University. For more details on bus services, visit https://www.busways.com.au/taxonomy/term/274.
Bus stops are located on Herring Road and University Avenue. You can check the bus stops and stations highlighted on the map (attached). Metro station is U27 on map, buses are T-U 11-17, or T28, conference is held at M21. See possible routes to our venue on the map.
Car
If you are driving, there is parking around the campus, however some of it is time restricted. Untimed non-meter parking is available on Talavera and Culloden Road, however, please check street signs though to make sure you are in an untimed area. There is also parking available on campus, see this link for details https://www.mq.edu.au/about/locations/parking/visitor.
Food:
The conference catering includes lunch as well as morning and afternoon tea. There are also a selection of coffee shops and other fod vendors adjacent to the conference venue (open until 3pm). For evening meals, there are many restaurants locally at the Macquarie Centre https://www.macquariecentre.com.au/fresh-food-and-dining/cafes-and-restaurants/. Alternatively, you can catch the Metro to Epping or Chatswood where there are a variety of restaurants to choose from.
